Color and Appearance Overview The appearance of an object is the aspect of visual experiences by which things are recognized and a distinction is made from chromatic (color) and geometric (gloss) attributes. We maintain the national scales for 0°/45° spectral reflectance factor for surface color and specular gloss at the 20°, 60°, and 85° standard geometries.
