Basic Standards and Calibrations
The large-area 2 proportional counter is
used for the measurement of alpha and beta particle emission rates from sources
with dimensions up to 14 in (35.56 cm) ×
8-in (20.32 cm). Typically these sources, one of which is shown
mounted inside the chamber, are used for the calibration of field monitoring
probes. The platform automatically is moved into juxtaposition with the upper
chamber forming a windowless counter.
