alpha-Table

The "alpha-table" consists of a 1.25 in (3.18 cm) diameter PIPS detector mounted to the table as shown. It is used to determine the degree of homogeneity of alpha-particle radioactivity distributed over the surface of large area sources. Sources are placed at 5 designated positions on the table. The variabilities of the count rates are used to estimate the inhomogeneity of the large area sources.
