Basic Standards and Calibrations
The 2 counter is a hemispherical proportional counter 5 in
(12.7 cm) inner diameter using P-10, an argon-methane gas mixture, at
atmospheric pressure. The counter is opened and closed pneumatically. It is
the oldest such counter at NIST and is the mainstay in the calibrations
program. Recently it has been used for 2 -particle counting.
