Publications Search Engine Instructions

General:
- Search words (including authors) are displayed in bold in the output list of citations.
- By default the search is case insensitive. To avoid this, put
your search in "quotes."
- If a special character or an accent is part of your search, then
merely omit the accent to get the appropriate citations list. For example, to search for
Güdel, enter Gudel—however, Güdel will not appear in bold in the citations list.
The Author Search:
- You can search for two authors by using: and for those that
published an article jointly, or or to get all the citations of both
authors.
- The citations list may not represent only the work of the author that you have in mind
because there are many people with the same last name. To lessen this, search
only in one particular division and/or search for "Lastname, First
Initial", e.g., "Thompson, A".
The Word Search:
- This will find up to two particular strings (words or quoted phrases)
in the citation. You can search for, "Atomic Spectroscopic Data"
and astronomy. Or, "Atomic Spect" and Data. But you
cannot enter atomic and spectroscopy or spectroscopic!
Due to "creative spelling" and/or a lack of convention, words may
appear in multiple forms. Be careful when making a search like "X-RAY".
- This field functions with an and to the author field. If you use both fields,
matches will only occur where the author and the word are both in the citation.
- Use "quotes" to bring your search results down to a reasonable
number of matches if you are searching for something like "SI".
The Years Search:
- The default for this field for a focused search (e.g., author name)
is to return citations for all years.
- The default for a full division search, returns citations for the
previous 6 years to the present, including a link to earlier years.
- The database contains citations from 1991 to the last full year.
The database is updated with new citations annually (usually in March).
The Division Search:
- This allows you to get publications from a single division instead of the entire laboratory.
- By default, if you only use this field, the search engine will only search for publications published from 6 years ago to the present.
You can then press a form button at the top of the page that redoes your search for previous years.
If you want your search to include all years, then use the year field from 1991 to the most recent year.
- This can be used to eliminate authors in other divisions that have the
same last name.
